Missed-call text back vs a telephone answering service
Two different jobs
A telephone answering service has a person (or a team) answer your calls when you cannot, take a message and pass it on. Missed-call text back does not answer the call: it sends the caller an automatic text and collects their reply and voicemail for you to deal with yourself.
When text back fits
It suits businesses where most callers want to describe a job and get a callback, and where you can reply within a reasonable time: trades, workshops, local services. The caller hears from you straight away, you see what they need in writing, and you stay in control of the reply.
When a live answering service fits better
If callers expect a person on the line, need an immediate decision, or the call could be urgent for safety, a live answering service (or your own staff) is the better choice. The Trade Hook is not an emergency service and must not be relied on where a delay could put someone at risk.
Costs and practicalities
Answering services are usually charged by the call or the minute, or with a monthly package; check what any provider includes. The Trade Hook is a monthly plan with set numbers of recovered calls and texts, and a free trial of 10 recovered calls. Some businesses use both: staff or an answering service during the day, and text back for calls that still go unanswered.
